17: Shedding Makes its Mark

The Axminster Community Shed has been in existence only since early 2022 but is already making a significant contribution to the community. Part of the 600-strong UK Men’s Shed’s Association, it is open to both men and women and there are no age barriers.

The ‘Shedders’ simple philosophy is ‘chat, connect and create’. Members are often people in retirement who enjoy some additional company, welcome the opportunity to learn new skills and are happy to put some of their spare energy into projects that benefit their community. In some cases, it’s a process that can help them to overcome loneliness and boost well-being.

Partnership is important. The Axminster banners are just one of a series of projects project through which the Shed is working with other groups and contributing to local life.
